Feltham 22-49 Southgate
Southgate Skolars went inside on Wednesday and came out with a fine victory and three points in the London ARL. The annual visit
to Feltham YOI went smoothly and despite fielding a side missing half a dozen regulars - including most of their most
experienced young players - Southgate competed well, defending superbly at times, in a tough first half.
Speed merchant Smokie Junor was untouchable and clinched a first half hat-trick, with impressive 16 year old Mikey Ogarro also
darting in for a try on debut. When prop Nimai Parmar charged over just before the break, Southgate had a 22-8 lead, Jamie Chapman
only converting one of five attempts.
Southgate wrapped the game up shortly after the break with tries by Nathaniel Alacaraz-Stapleton, Junor's fourth and Chris Tipple,
Chapman adding two conversions.
Two quicks tries by Feltham reduced the lead to 38-16 so player-coach Tane Taitoko took the opportunity to add a drop goal.
When Chapman added a try, manager Gavin Willacy failed narrowly with the conversion attempt. But a few minutes later, Willacy -
on his rugby league debut at the age of 36 - took a gift from Junor to score his first try and added the conversion to give
Southgate a 49-22 victory.
