Kent
36-24 Norwich
On a day when the weather could not have been much more different to last weekend, Kent Ravens secured a 36-24 victory over Norwich
Saxons in their first league game of the season. With it being a very damp and slightly chilly day, the conditions were not ideally
suited to a free flowing game of rugby league.
The game was fairly even in the first quarter, and then the Ravens started to get into their stride. They took the lead through a
try from Lee Amzeleg, and extended it with a try from Damien Izzard.
The Ravens managed to score a third try in the first half when Richard Hewes went over the try line. In the last 10 minutes of the
first half, the Saxons had a mini revival and scored a try a few minutes before the half time interval. This made the half time
score 16-6 to the Ravens.
The half time interval seemed to help the Ravens more than the Saxons as an early score from Ewen Drummond calmed the Ravens’ players
down and made sure that any hopes of a comeback by the Saxons were dramatically cut short. However Norwich Saxons never gave up and
kept causing the Ravens defence problems, but the Ravens always looked comfortable and in control in what was a very assured
performance.
There were further scores in the second half from the Ravens by Monish Shome, Stuart Leppard, and Damien Izzard. Aiden Oakley kicked
three goals, and Richard Hewes kicked one to make the final score 36-24 to Kent Ravens.
