St Albans Centurions second string made it through to the semi finals of the London League with a good win over the South London side, although it looked so different in the first 15 minutes, with South London running in three unanswered, unconverted, tries. The Cents squad looked out of balance at first as a mixture of teenagers, and three first teamers coming back from injuries struggled to get used to the development team’s style of play, but gradually the team came together and played some outstanding football.

As the Cents pulled level and then began to stretch their lead, the South London boys dug deep and never made it an easy game. It was only in the last quarter that fitness levels seemed to tell and in the end the Cents ran out comfortable winners on a hot summer day when temperatures reached the high seventies.
