Hainault Bulldogs made it an amazing 6 wins from 6 at the weekend with an overwhelming victory over Kent Ravens to maintain top spot in the London League. The Bulldogs started off as they meant to go on with three converted tries in ten minutes; two from the impressive centre Ben Bolton-Smith and one from the stalwart winger Richard Duggan, all converted by skipper Andy Long to give the Bulldogs a commanding 18-0 lead.

The Bulldogs kept the ball in hand for most of the first half after some great defence forced the Ravens to make a number of errors. The Bulldogs capitialised with further tries from debutant second rower Paul Bailey (who scored with his very first touch of the ball in rugby league), free scoring centre Dan Murphy, ever present hooker Pat Crowley, scrum half Nick Williams and skipper Long who sneaked over for one. However, the Ravens never gave up and eventually scored a try from their lively winger who chased up a kick and his pace deservedly gave him the try, making the half-time score 42-6.

The Bulldogs started off the stronger in the second half, their pace and power up front set the platform for winger Oli Marler who after waiting patiently on the touchline was introduced to the game and scored a quick-fire hat-trick of tries, all of which were well taken.

Ravens kept trying and were duly rewarded with a consolation try which was converted. This try gave the ravens the confidence they needed and although the game was out of their sight at 58-12 they never gave up and but for the fantastic Bulldogs defence under pressure they could have scored another couple of tries. Two further tries for the Bulldogs from sub Tony Douglas and a second for hooker Pat Crowley made the final score 70 - 12.

Coach Kevin Reith was delighted with the victory, saying "that was the most organised performance we have put in so far this season and finally the game plan we work so hard on twice a week in training came off.  I would like to say well done to winger Oli Marler who has waited so patiently on the touchline for most of our first 6 games and to go on the pitch today and score a hat-trick in 15 minutes was unbelievable but well deserved. He has definitely put himself to the forefront for the rest of the season”.
