SHARKS RESERVE GRADE GET THEIR SHOW ON THE ROAD

West London Sharks second team got their season off to a flying start with a hard fought victory at Greenwich Admirals home ground in Woolwich, south east London.

The Sharks were the first to get a score on the board after some good work by the pack created enough space for Pedro Mostaeddi to squeeze in the corner.  The try was unconverted by Paul Richards.  Just five minutes later the Sharks added another try, this time by Dave Harris in his comeback game after a season away from the Sharks. The try was created by new boy Travers Bonney, making a barnstorming run from his own 20 meters, to well inside Admirals territory.

Strong running from second row Neil Holbourn and centres Stu Daniels and Paul Richards soon saw the Sharks capitalising on good field position, when fullback Tom Howden, playing his first game for two years, managed to score in the corner with his first touch of the football.

Just minutes before the halftime interval debutant Tony Flynn got his first try from the club, driving over from all of 4 meters from the play the ball to take the score to 0 – 16 before the conversion was added by Nick Elliott to take the half time score to 0 – 18.

Ten minutes into the second half man of the match JP Byrnes drove the ball up strongly, from the resulting play the ball, welsh scrum half Harris found fullback Howden who cut through a hole in the defence to score the Sharks final score of the day, converted by Richards to take the score to 0 – 24.

A mixture of lack of fitness in the Sharks ranks, a number of injuries restricting the amount of interchanges and a real never say die attitude from the Admirals led to a mini revival with three tries of their own in the final twenty-five minutes to take the final score line to 12 – 24.
