London Amateur Rugby League 2008 Season

Competition Format
This year’s competition will again operate on a merit table basis with teams organising fixtures amongst themselves. The first week of fixtures will be on the weekend of April 26th, with the final date for games to be included in the league table being Sunday 27th July.

The scoring system for matches is as follows:

Away Win:
3 points
Away Draw: 2 points
Home Win: 2 points
Home Draw: 1 point
80+ KM trip to away game: 1 point
Completion of Home and Away games with opponent: 1 point
Default on game within three days of fixture: -1 point, with 24-0 score-line awarded to opposition
The average number of points scored per game, rather than the total, determines positions in the league table.

The top six teams who have played a minimum of five matches will then be invited into the Grand Final playoff series, which will take the following format:

2/3 August:
GAME A: 3rd v 6th *
GAME B: 4th v 5th *

9/10 August:
S/FINAL 1: 1st v Lowest placed winner A/B*
S/FINAL 2: 2nd v Highest placed winner A/B*

16/17 August:
GRAND FINAL

* On the first two weekends the opponents of the two home teams may be swapped to reduce the overall traveling burden. Decision to be made by the committee.

If there are teams who do not qualify for the Championship play-offs looking for games at this stage of the season a Shield competition will run concurrently for up to eight teams, acting on a straight knockout basis. The five game rule may be waived for this competition, at the discretion of the committee.

For the 2008 season, the LARL committee have agreed with our counterparts from the RL Merit League, that inter-league games between members of the two competitions can be counted as competitive matches, whilst both leagues are in season. These fixtures will need to be confirmed a week in advance to be guaranteed inclusion as regular season games.
